Being Drunk in France

This happened to an Englishman in France who was very drunk.

The French police stopped his car and ask the man if he had been drinking. The Englishman admits that he had been drinking all day. His daughter had got married that morning to a French man, and at the reception he had champagne, a few bottles of wine and six single malts.

The policeman proceeds to Alcohol test (breath test) him and asks the Englishman  if he knows why under French Law he is going to be arrested. The Englishman answers: “No sir, I do not. But while we‘re asking questions, do you know that this is a British car and my wife is driving … on the other side?”
